Market trends and other informational links for recycling: * Current pricing for crushed and loose aluminum cans in the U.S. : As of January 13, 2010: $0.69 (USD) to the pound. This price can vary because:
IMPORTANT NOTICE: Due to the recent unprecedented market conditions, the following formula is no longer reliable. Hopefully, once the markets stabilize, it should be reliable again. Once this happens, I will remove this notice. The price shown is the highest paid in my area. This pricing formula is based upon years of experience experience and data collected over a period of time from myself and from other recyclers. To check the most current pricing for yourself, click on the LME link below, take the "Cash Buyer" amount and divide it by 2240, then subtract 31 cents. The tonne mentioned on the LME site is metric (not the "short" American ton of 2,000 pounds) and equals 2240 U.S. pounds. The subtracting of 31 cents is because there has to be some cost to further processing of cans to a melted form. This 31 cents is an average. In my experience, one thousand pounds on a regular monthly basis should get you premium pricing. If you want to get the highest premium pricing for aluminum cans and you can get at least 40,000 pounds a month, and operate in the U.S., contact Anheuser-Bush or one of the other recyclers of cans mentioned below. As far as I know, Anheuser-Bush is one of the largest recyclers of aluminum cans in the U.S. Additional links:
