Current pricing for crushed and loose aluminum cans in the U.S. :

As of September 2, 2010:    $0.73 (USD) to the pound.

        This price can vary because:

bullet

Contract obligations of the buyer (They may or may not need pounds to meet their contract or goal with their buyer)

bullet

Lack of close competition so the buyer has little reason to give a competitive price

bullet

They are competitive (in this case they will appreciate your business)

bullet

Your load volume or quality is not to their standard. (Some foreign material is expected but not too much)

bullet

Market fluctuations

This pricing formula is based upon years of experience experience and data collected over a period of time from myself and from other recyclers. To check the most current pricing for yourself, click on the LME link below, take the "Cash Buyer" amount and divide it by 2240, then subtract 31 cents. The tonne mentioned on the LME site is metric (not the "short" American ton of 2,000 pounds) and equals 2240 U.S. pounds. The subtracting of 31 cents is because there has to be some cost to further processing of cans to a melted form. This 31 cents is an average. However, due to the volatility of the markets coming out of recession, local prices may not reflect this. I expect this to change, once the markets stabilize more.

In my experience, one thousand pounds on a regular monthly basis should get you premium pricing.

If you want to get the highest premium pricing for aluminum cans and you can get at least 40,000 pounds a month, and operate in the U.S., contact Anheuser-Bush or one of the other recyclers of cans mentioned below. As far as I know, Anheuser-Bush is one of the largest recyclers of aluminum cans in the U.S.
